Fordnutz Club History 2016

On February 20th, the Cascade Cougar Club extended an invitation to Fordnutz to join them for a visit to America's Car Museum in Tacoma, WA. Although most of our members attending the event live in Washington, four Canadians joined the group.

This facility has something for everyone from familiar muscle cars (above) to Fred Flintstone's daily driver, early 20th century vehicles, Nascar and NHRA race cars (below)

We were hoping for a strong Fordnutz presence at the Era of Steam show held at Langley's Otter Co-op on April 24th, but fickle weather patterns put an end to that idea. In the end only Harry Unruh drove his 69 Eliminator, Bill Ronalds his 69 convertible and Jim Ferguson his 29 Model A pick-up hot rod. They persevered until about 12:15 but when the rain got too heavy they decided to call it a day.

May 1st: Harry and Marlene Unruh's 69 Eliminator was the sole Fordnutz rep among the over seven hundred cars at this year's Poppy High School show in Langley.

Mustangs & Cougars, Port Angeles, WA, May 8: Six Fordnutz members were among thirteen Cougars attending this annual show held on the waterfront in this beautiful port city...and…every member came home with a trophy. Here is a list of our winners:
69-70 Cougar Coupe: 3rd place, Brian & Grace Howson, Tigard, OR - yellow 69 XR-7
1st place, Jeff & Carol Bingaman, Federal Way, WA - green 70 sunroof standard
Cougar Convertible:   3rd place, Jim Compton, Richland, WA - burgundy 69 XR-7
2nd place, Heather Whitaker, Delta, BC - yellow 69 XR-7
                                   1st place, Steve & Zana Goulding, Spokane, WA - aqua 69 XR-7
Specialty Cougar:      1st place, Scott Ferguson, Delta, BC - blue 68 sunroof XR7-G

May 29th. Among the sixty cars at Cloverdale's Ride to Live event  were the Unruhs' 69 Eliminator, the Ronalds' 69 Cougar convertible and Liane Henschke's 65 Mustang.

...and of the over 250 cars at the Lions Sockeye Run in Steveston on June 12th, Scott Ferguson and Heather Whitaker were the sole club representatives.

Canada Day Cruise, July 1st, Abbotsford: The weather was perfect and the participation great for this annual club event. Eleven Cougars, two Mustangs, two classic Ford trucks and a couple of daily drivers cruised the Fraser Valley back roads again this year. The first stop was for ice cream at the Birchwood Dairy, then off to Pacific Car Art where there was so much to see (and buy) we could have spent hours there. Of course, the final stop was the Friesens' Abbotsford home for the annual pot luck barbecue. Fantastic day!

Over 70 cars attended the Totem Classic Thunderbird show on July 10th. Scott and Heather were the only Fordnutz members at this year's White Rock site and although we did not win any awards, we won an indoor grill.

Westcoasters Daze in White Rock is a popular show with great value. Over 400 cars paid $10 to secure a spot close to the beach. $5 bought a big pancake breakfast, local First Nations members cooked fresh salmon on site and helicopter rides were offered for those with deeper pockets. Scott and Heather joined the Unruhs on this July 31st.

Harry's 69 Eliminator, Heather's 69 convertible and Scott's 68 XR7-G with sunroof.

The Cascade Cougar Club's Prowl on August 7th was a success despite the weather. Their Tacoma location began sunny and dry but when a squall hit mid-morning, it was just too nasty to prolong the event. Organizers scrambled to collect ballots and award trophies getting things wrapped up by 1:30. Fordnutz had a number of winners among the over 50 Cougars and other assorted FoMoCo models:

67 XR 7: 2nd Scott Ferguson
68 Std:    1st Elaine Pinkerton
69 HT:    1st Brian Howson
70 HT:    1st Jeff Bingaman
69/70 Convertible:
                2nd Heather Whitaker
                1st Steve Goulding
74-02 Cougar: 1st Jeff Bingaman
Ford All: 1st Mike Warner
Best of Show: Dave Nashif

Parking at the Shelby show is always a challenge. This year's event in Surrey on August 1st saw Liane Henschke take 1st place in the 65 Mustang class, Jason Wiseman 3rd in the 67 Mustang class and Harry Unruh 2nd in the Cougar class.

Some wet winners, Jeff Bingaman, Steve Goulding, Mike Warner and Dave Nashif

The North Delta Show & Shine on August 13th saw a welcome hot and dry day. Three North Delta members were among the over 100 cars on site: Heather Whitaker (yellow 69 XR 7 convertible), Scott Ferguson (Madras Blue 68 XR7-G) and Steve O'Connell (black 70 standard). Steve came away with the Best 70's award.

Scott, Heather, Steve and Sulu enjoy the shade before Steve's 70 takes top class honours.
